Euphemisms You know, its funny (or not so funny when you really look at it), I have been saved for only a short while now and have made it a habit of reading my Bible faithfully every day since then. I used to watch the news or television and wonder how things had gotten so messed up. The entertainment industry seems hell bent on legitimizing everything that the Bible calls sin as somehow being 'alright.' What I am talking about is the term 'Euphemism.' This is when a person says one thing in place of another. Perhaps I should say it is really making a word (or words) sound 'not so bad' in comparison to what they really mean. I figured I'd write a little article about it here on my site and maybe point out a few of the most common Euphemisms that make evil sound good (or at least non-threatening). The Bible is pretty clear that the words Lust, Fornication, and Adultery are bad things. Strangely, when you hear them mentioned on the air it is usually in the form of 'Adult Entertainment' 'Pornography' 'an fling or affair' 'sexual liberation' or some such words. Words like 'alternative lifestyle' and 'homosexual' might better be called sodomite or abomination as in the Bible. The sickest word is the word 'choice' that seems to have many uses. Abortion is a 'choice' apparently. I find it strange that this 'choice' they speak of is somehow linked to a woman's rights. I have to assume that the 'choice' of the baby is not taken into consideration, half of which are female. I might be confused but it doesn't seem the baby has a choice at all nor is it very liberating for the female ones being slaughtered either. Recently we have been arguing that the words 'Happy Holidays' are being used to replace 'Merry Christmas' yet one has to wonder if the season has not lost its meaning as it becomes yet another endeavor to make people rich through the purchase and exchange of gifts. I noticed that even when I was at work and faced with the possibility of having to do overtime over the Thanksgiving season that most people wanted Friday off rather than Thursday for shopping purposes. At some point a whore became a 'prostitute' or 'adult entertainer' at a 'Gentleman's Club' which was once called a strip joint. Even the word 'Pedophilia' is a euphemism for abomination. I heard they are calling Pedophilia 'Intergenerational Intimacy' because the euphemism couldn't hide the true evil of this crime. So for those of you looking for answers in the Bible you might need to do some listening when dealing with the entertainment media. When sin becomes a 'syndrome,' 'baggage,' 'issues,' 'dysfunctions,' or 'sicknesses' that is treatable with 'medication' (called sorcery in the Bible) then what more can one do but to hold on and wait for the end to come. I would say God Bless in closing but if you don't understand this term you can use the world's euphemism of 'good luck.' |
